Mosquito Beads are exactly what the name says. Small, dry granules, built on a biodegradable corn base and carrying essential oils. They come in a jar. Six essential oils do the work. Geraniol at 1.75 percent, then eugenol, peppermint, citronella, cornmint, and rosemary at 0.25 percent each. They ride on that corn base and mask the human scent, so mosquitoes fly by instead of finding you. Peak performance runs 1 to 2 days per application, so you are not relighting anything at dusk or reapplying every forty-five minutes.

Three ways to use them

• On the ground. Sprinkle the beads where you are sitting. This is the method that gives you the full coverage area, and it is what we recommend for best results.
• In the open jar. Take the lid off and set the jar nearby. Good for a tabletop, a porch rail, or anywhere you would rather not have beads underfoot.
• In a mesh bag. Pour some in and clip it to your clothing. This is the one that travels: the sidelines, the walk to the dock, the stretch between the car and the campsite.

And yes, citronella is in here, at a quarter of a percent, one of six oils. The oil was never the problem. Burning it one wick at a time was.
