What people tell us

The smell comes up more than anything else. Roughly one in four reviews mentions it, often before the mosquitoes. People describe it as fresh, pleasant, not overpowering, and better than expected. Several say it's the reason they'd pick it over a spray even setting the bugs aside. One customer leaves the mesh bag in the garage just for the way it smells.

The second is how little it asks of you. Open the jar, sprinkle where you're sitting, sit down. "So simple, yet genius" is how one reviewer put it. People are consistently surprised that something this easy does anything at all — several describe themselves as skeptical right up until they noticed nobody had been bitten.

The third is the evenings they got back. This is what shows up in the longer reviews. People who'd been driven indoors by early July describe eating dinner outside again, sitting by the fire, staying at the table after dark. One wrote that it "gave us more time together as a family." Another said it extended their outdoor evenings by months.

And it travels. Campsites, RVs, ball fields, hunting trips, back decks, even a restaurant patio at dusk. People keep a jar in the truck and a mesh bag on the backpack.

How people use it

Most pour it on the ground around a patio, deck or fire pit. Some set an open jar on the table instead, and some fill the mesh bag and clip it to a chair or a belt loop. Eighteen ounces poured on the ground covers up to 1,000 square feet; the five-ounce Sidekick covers up to 300.

Peak performance runs one to two days per application, so a Friday pour is generally still working on Saturday night.

What's in it

Six essential oils — geraniol at 1.75%, plus eugenol, peppermint, citronella, cornmint and rosemary — on a biodegradable corn base. No DEET, no flame, and nothing that goes on your skin. Made in the USA and exempt from EPA registration under FIFRA Section 25(b).
